July 11, 2008 - This is a BIG day.....our first grandchild was born!  Kathryn Olivia made her grand entrance at 2:26 PM weighing 7 lbs 9 oz and measuring 20 inches long.  All are doing well!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!  Plans for today are fairly low and slow....ending up with a BBQ with my brother....then fireworks down at the lake.....the typical small town USA holiday!  You gotta love it!

I turned the Guest Book back on....we'll see if the fix keeps me from getting spammed - I'm not hopeful!

July 3, 2008 - Well...obviously it's been a LONG TIME since I updated anything on the website - so when a good friend and customer told me to get with it, I got the message!  I'll be taking photos and posting new beads over the next few days.  You'll probably be seeing the influence of some of the wonderful master artists I've taken classes with this past year.

My friend, Mary, came over this afternoon and dug thru all my bead boxes....she left with a bag full of beads and a big smile on her face.  It's so much fun to see what she does with them....she's a talented fiber artist and knits like there is no tomorrow....and many of my beads end up on the fabulous felted bags she makes!

November 5, 2007 - Just catching up on some of the updates in PappaShop - looks as though I should be able to turn the blog back on and not gets scads of spam.....I'll give it a try!

August 19, 2007 - Finally getting rain but it's far too late for the corn crop...it's all burned up and damaged from high winds and hail of last week.  It's a cool day today, to I'm getting in lots of torch time.....trying my hand at blown ornaments......they are pretty labor intensive as I have quite a learning curve impacting at the moment...but that will decrease the more I do.

August 14, 2007 - Back home from a trip around Lake Michigan with my extra Mom, Helen.  We had a fabulous time and also managed to celebrate her birthday while on the road!  I'd never been to Traverse City before....lots to see and do.....neat shops....lots of people on the beach....lots of kites being flown and they were HUGE & ORNATE!  Now...the one thing you must realize is that THEY are crazy drivers.....talk about needing to be defensive....that part I didn't like!

I'm hoping to get some time in the studio this week and weekend....but I also need to print all the labels for the mailings for the Dunn County Artists Tour as I need to have them in the mail by August 27.  That will be about 1200 labels printed 1 sheet at a time...won't that be fun!

July 24, 2007 - Still thinking about all the fun I had at the class at this past weekend and looking forward to the class next week with Andrea Guarino at The Gathering Place.  Then I'll be dreaming about the September class with Kim Fields....I love the work of all these talented artists and hope to incorporate some of what they teach into my own unique style and design.

The people at the class were fabulous!  I had so much fun seeing the things that Mary Poineal of McDuck Creations will be premiering at The Gathering this week....she does such beautiful work!  I use all of the Celtic design sterling that she has available and they are always fast sellers!

July 23, 2007 - I'm still enjoying the fun of this past weekend.  I was in Naperville, IL at The Gathering Place Studio for a one day class with Anastasia.  It was a fabulous day meeting lots of friends from cyberspace and LE Forum.  We all were amazed at the hair-like stringer Anastasia uses routinely to make her fabulous tree beads.  We all managed to get a few tree beads and raised surface implosion/murrini florals into the annealer.

July 19, 2007 - the hot & humid weather has finally let up - I admit it - we're a bunch of pansies when it comes to all the humidity.....but 80 and low humidity is what it's all about!  I'm actually on my way to the studio to spend some time at the torch and do some tool packing for a class I'm taking this Sunday with Anastasia at The Gathering Place!  Really excited about this class....and then 2 weeks later it's back for a class with Andrea Guarino....so much fun this summer!

July 10, 2007 - A Late Entry - To CELEBRATE my new website, I'm hosting a bead contest/give-away = see the home page for details!

July 10, 2007 A Much COOLER Day In N. Wisconsin!!
Our run of hot & humid weather is giving us a break for a few days.....it usually surprises people not from this area that northern WI has many runs of 90+ temperatures with high humidity - it really is not the frozen tundra all year long.  In fact, we usually have a few days where the temps top the 100 degree mark.....

I'm pretty excited!  I will be taking a class later this month with Anastasia!  She'll be teaching her unique techniques for surface application and color gradients :-)  Hope to have something worthy of showing after that class at The Gathering Place.

Then it will be an August class with Andrea Guarino!  She'll be teaching the content of her Master Class minus the PMC & silver core.  This timing is perfect as the big Dunn County Artists Tour is September 28-30. 2007 and my studio is again one of the stops.  Hope to have some Andrea inspired pieces as well as loose beads available.  Again - the class is at my favorite class location - Portia's - The Gathering Place.  It's about a 6 hour drive for me, but well worth the effort & fuel....if you ever have an opportunity to take a class at Portia's don't think twice....you won't regret it....fabulous facility....skilled masters that share their knowledge & techniques....and hospitality that is AMAZING!!!

July 4, 2007!  Happy Independence Day!  It's a 4th in small town USA for us...a BBQ - up to the park for a band concert - then down to the lake for fireworks....and maybe an ice cream cone on the way home!  Enjoy the holiday!

June 17, 2007  Happy Father's Day!
So much for my plan of frequent updates.....way too much work in the yard and gardens.....

It's been WAY too hot to spend much time in my un-AC studio....90+ and high humidity (68%) is NOT what the spoiled inhabitants of NW WI can deal with....spent a couple of hours in the studio yesterday....fan blowing on Famous Seamus as he laid on his back with all 4 up in the air on the concrete floor....I adjusted the angle on the fan so I actually got a little of it and he grumbled & moaned.....if it's too hot for a 10 mo old pup, it's WAY too hot for this old lady....so in the house and the wonderful AC we came!

June 5, 2007
It's been a busy week in the garden & flower beds....working between heavy rains and gentle showers....all the stuff that's needed to make the garden grow...but I'm getting tired of the mud tracked in by my Famous Seamus O'Toole!

Just a couple of photos of the yard after the DAYS of rain....can't believe we're still in a deficit!

June 1, 2007

It's going to be a rainy weekend here....too bad for all those families with high school graduation parties....they will be spending LOTS of time in the house & garages!  But....it will be wonderful weather for torching.  Now...if I could just get my glass muze kicked into gear....somehow my creative side doesn't seem to be working at the moment!  Maybe too much time working on the website and several trauma management courses I'm teaching in the near future....

May 30, 2007

Well....I guess I've done it now....my first "official" blog for
the Grianán Studio website.  I'm going to do my best to add a little note every day or two....no sense writing if there is nothing of interest happening!

The neighborhood is a hustle and bustle.....4 of the kids are graduating from high school next weekend and the yardwork is of MAMMOTH proportions!  So much color from all the bundles of plants....it's wonderful to see.  There usually are lots of patches of color with spring planting in the neighborhood, but the extras associated with having graduation parties outside make the neighborhood look like it's totally from a gardening magazine!

Famous Seamus O'Toole (my studio muze) and I have errands to run this AM....but are planning to spend all the glorious afternoon in the studio....might need to fill the "cookie" bowl for Seamus....you know, it's hard work being the source of inspiration!

Enough rambling for today.....
